There are books that give you a few hours of distraction. Books that make you dream and fall in love. Books that make you laugh and have fun. Books intense and exciting that I paid more than a few tears. And then there are THE BOOKS, the ones who will not forget for years and that I think about everything: your life, your world, the infinite possibilities that may result from your own actions, fate, destiny, luck. All.

Forever, Interrupted is a book that made me appreciate every moment of my life and every person that I have next to me.

The story of Elsie and Ben, who meet in rainy day, waiting for their pizza takeaway. They smile, they exchange a few words and they fall in love, right away. One of those stories that rarely happen, but they happen. Two people who understand to be meant for each other and that they do not want to waste even a moment away. Their story is evolving rapidly: in six months they fall in love, move in together and get married, young, happy, and with a life ahead.

But life never goes as you expect and an accident takes away Ben, only nine days after wedding.

Ben never bored me. God, how I wish I'd had the time to find him positively mind-numbing. when you love someone so much that you've stuck around through all the interesting things that have happened to them and you have nothing left to say, when you know the course of their day before they even tell you, when you like next to them and hold their hand even though they haven't said one interesting thing in days, that's a love I want. It's the love I was on target for.

We are witnessing the long and painful journey of Elsie, who is coming to terms with her grief and her loss, many do not agree, just because Elise had Ben for just six months. But their love was something unique and unrepeatable and Elise need to suffer, to remember, to go over every moment of their life together.

So we see, this young and destroyed woman, who will try to accept her new life, with the help of Susan, Ben’s mother , also destroyed by the same pain. The two women will force each other, until Elise does not feel ready to face the world again with her legs and without her beloved Ben.

A heartbreaking book, that makes you apart and that takes you to embrace life and all that you hold dear. But it’s a book that also knows how to make you smile and soften, before the events and incidents that make us discover a Ben we don’t know, because the book begins with his death, but that makes us appreciate every gesture of this man simple, ordinary, perhaps, but plenty of love and dreams.

A narrative that keeps pace, alternating between sad and discouraging, in moments of joy and fun, that make you run away a few smiles. If the story told by Elsie leaves you breathless and helpless, the part about their past, their meetings, the evolution of their relationship, the sweetness of that feeling and love to uncontrolled and spontaneous which absolutely don’t want to escape, help us to better understand the point of view of Elsie and smile and appreciate their love, just as Elsie can do the same, that feeding on the most pleasant memories of their short life together, cannot understand that no matter how short the passing of a person can be in our lives, it always pays to have known and loved her.

No matter how strong you are, no matter how smart you are or tough you can be, the world will find a way to break you. And when it does, the only thing you can do is hold on.

We think we're invincible, almost immortal. We believe that nothing can happen to us and that we will live with the person you have chosen for life, but things are very different. Misfortunes happen, people die or leave us and what we are left with, then? The memory sometimes regret for all that we could say or do. So stop thinking you have all the time in the world to prove to those we love how we feel; stop thinking that there is no hurry, tomorrow may be more comfortable today.

Embrace the person you love, always, do not leave anything to chance and never forget to say what you feel, and above all, do not grudge, because you never know what the future holds for you.

I read this book at a time when perhaps I would have done without it: I was not ready for such a story that I knew would provoke in me a deep and unbridgeable rift and so it was. I tried to put it away for a few days, but then I could not resist and I did not regret reading it, after all.

I recommend it to everyone, really, because books like this make you appreciate yourself, your family, love, friendship, and every feeling there is in this world.
